A little information about the town.

Los Alcázares (pronounced ‘los-alcatha-res’) is situated on the shore of the Mar Menor and with seven kilometers of beach it is ideal for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts.

Los Alcázares is located in the south eastern Murcia region of Spain, also called Costa Calida. The town sits on the western shore of the Mar Menor, which is Europe’s largest salt water lagoon, and separated from the Mediterranean by a 22 kilometer strip of land called La Manga. It is just 5 kilometers from San Javier (Murcia) International Airport and 24 kilometers from the Roman port of Cartagena.

This region enjoys an average of 320 days of sunshine a year, with an average annual temperature of 18oC, and the warm waters of the Mar Menor are usually 7oC warmer than the Med and are famed for their therapeutic qualities. The town still has the thermal baths built in Roman times. There are 7kms of sandy beaches with a wide promenade making it easy to walk along the coast enjoying the bars, tapas and entertainment. There are plenty of water sports such as sailing, windsurfing and kayaking at the Marine Resort which are available all year.

There are various festivals and celebrations worth visiting. The town became a municipal autonomy in October 1983 and each October there is a week long outdoor party with live music, fireworks and shows. During Easter there is a large medieval market selling everything from jewelry, to food, clothes and shoes. There are usually firework displays and events to celebrate the successful defense against Barbary pirate invasions in the 15th century. The last 2 weeks of August is the international celebration of La Huerta when groups representing market garden areas throughout Spain and Europe gather to display their wares. There is a procession through the town which is well worth seeing.
